Your information, handled with care

This explains what we collect, why, and what stays yours alone — including exactly what "your journal is private" actually means in practice.

Last updated:

1. Who this is

You're Worth It ("YWI", "we", "us") operates youreworthit.site. This policy covers everyone who creates an account, browses the site, or otherwise uses the platform. By using You're Worth It, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

We're a South African platform, and this policy is written with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) as the standard we hold ourselves to, regardless of where you're using the site from.

2. What we collect

We only collect what the platform actually needs to work:

Account information

Your name, email address, and password (stored as an irreversible hash — we never see or store your actual password).

What you put in your dashboard

Calendar entries, tasks and reminders, shopping lists, meditation activity (which sessions you've completed, for your own streak tracking), and your journal entries.

Community & Marketplace activity

Groups you join, posts and comments you make, meetup RSVPs, and — if you choose to list one — your business or storefront details (name, description, category, city, contact info).

Technical information

Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) and the cookies needed to keep you logged in — see Section 8.

3. Your journal is private — here's exactly what that means

Journal entries are stored against your account and are not displayed anywhere on the site, not visible to other members, and not reviewed by our team as part of normal operation. We built it this way on purpose — it's meant to be the one place that's genuinely just yours.

The honest technical limit: as with any hosted service, someone with direct, authorised access to the underlying database (essentially, whoever administers the server) could technically read raw data — we don't build or offer a tool for anyone at YWI to browse journal entries, and we don't do so. We won't access individual journal content except where required by law, or to investigate a genuine security incident, or if you contact us for support and specifically ask us to.

4. What's public, what's members-only, what's private

Not everything you add works the same way:

  • Private, always: journal entries, your calendar, tasks, and shopping lists.
  • Visible to other logged-in members: your community posts, group activity, and comments, per standard community-platform norms.
  • Public, once approved: anything submitted to the Marketplace — your listing's business name, description, category, city, and the contact details you chose to include.

5. How we use your information

To run the platform: creating and securing your account, showing you your own dashboard, sending you meetup and account-related notifications, reviewing Marketplace submissions, and keeping the community safe by acting on reports of abuse. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use your journal or dashboard content to build advertising profiles.

6. Third parties involved in running the site

A few outside services help the platform function:

  • Hosting provider — stores the site and its database.
  • YouTube (Google) — the Meditation Library embeds videos hosted on YouTube; playing one is subject to YouTube's own privacy policy, not just ours.
  • WhatsApp (Meta) — Marketplace "Message on WhatsApp" links take you to WhatsApp directly; that conversation is between you and the business, governed by WhatsApp's own terms.
  • Email delivery — used to send account, password reset, and notification emails.

We don't share your personal information with any of these beyond what's needed for them to do that specific job.

7. Legal basis for processing (POPIA)

We process your information because it's necessary to provide the service you've signed up for (contractual necessity), because you've given consent (for example, by submitting a Marketplace listing), or because of a legitimate interest in keeping the platform safe and functioning. Where consent is the basis, you can withdraw it at any time by contacting us or adjusting your account.

8. Cookies

We use cookies for the basics: keeping you logged in, remembering your session, and standard WordPress security cookies. We don't currently use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. If that changes, this policy will be updated first.

9. How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain something for legal or accounting reasons.

10. Your rights

Under POPIA, you have the right to:

  • Ask us what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
  • Ask us to correct information that's wrong or out of date.
  • Ask us to delete your account and personal information.
  • Object to how we're processing your information.
  • Lodge a complaint with South Africa's Information Regulator if you believe we've handled your information improperly.

To exercise any of these, contact us using the details in Section 14 — most requests, we can action directly.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information — including password hashing, restricted database access, and standard WordPress security practices. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we treat this seriously and will notify affected users if a breach puts your personal information at meaningful risk.

12. Who this is for

You're Worth It is intended for women aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we'll remove it.

13. Changes to this policy

If we make a meaningful change to how we handle your information, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, let members know directly.
