There comes a point in every woman’s life when she realises she has absolutely no idea what she’s doing.
Not in a dramatic, existential-crisis kind of way.
Just… How long does cooked chicken last in the fridge?
And suddenly you’re standing in front of the refrigerator at 9:43 p.m., Googling food safety like you’re about to sit your final exam.
Welcome to adulthood.
Nobody tells you that being a grown-up is basically having a phone with Google on it.
You Google everything.
“Is it normal for my eye to twitch?”
“Can you wash this in the washing machine?”
“Why is my washing machine making that noise?”
“Can you eat cheese if it smells slightly weird?”
“Why am I suddenly exhausted?”
“Is this a rash or am I dying?”
And my personal favourite:
“Why did I walk into this room?”
Google has answers for everything except that last one.
Adulthood is also discovering that nobody actually knows what they’re doing.
We all just look confident.
That woman at the supermarket who knows exactly which cleaning product to buy? She’s Googled it.
The woman at work who confidently says, “I’ll handle it”? She’s going home tonight to Google how to handle it.
Your friend who seems to have her finances, relationship, career and skincare routine perfectly organised?
She’s probably Googling, “How to get your life together when you have no idea what you’re doing.”
You’re not behind.
You’re not secretly terrible at adulthood.
You’re just a human being trying to remember whether you’re supposed to wash towels at 40 or 60 degrees.
And honestly?
You’re doing pretty well.
You got yourself here.
You pay bills. You make appointments. You remember birthdays. You buy toilet paper before you run out. Mostly.
You have survived awkward conversations, bad dates, difficult bosses, questionable haircuts and at least one phase where you thought you could cut your own fringe.
That deserves a medal.
So the next time you find yourself Googling something embarrassingly basic, don’t worry.
You’re not failing at adulthood.
You’re participating correctly.
And if all else fails…
Google it.
